Mohàcs to Kalocsa, Hungary

There was no time to explore Mohàcs and soon after leaving the town the excursion coach was on a near-deserted and pristine motorway - VIDEO CAPTURES Malcolm McCrow
The motorway, which in 2019, has yet to be completed, parallels the Danube and will eventually link Budapest in the north with Croatia in the south.   A feature of the motorway is its six viaducts and four tunnels - VIDEO CAPTURES Malcolm McCrow
The Puszta or Great Hungarian Plain is covered with large ranches and after leaving the motorway it was a short drive to the Bakod Horse Farm on a ranch near Kalocsa - VIDEO CAPTURES Malcolm McCrow
The Magyar horsemen wear traditional dress and demonstrate their equestrian skills - VIDEO CAPTURES Malcolm McCrow
The horsemen demonstrate a variety of exercises that were once practiced for war - VIDEO CAPTURES Malcolm McCrow
The horses have been taught to sit or lie down as during battle  this presented a smaller target and gave protection to the rider - VIDEO CAPTURES Malcolm McCrow
The riders also demonstrate a variety of carriages, some at alarming speeds that contrasts with the leisurely pace of the oxcart - VIDEO CAPTURES Malcolm McCrow
The show culminates with a rider, standing astride the two rearmost horses, riding nine horses round the arena - VIDEO CAPTURES Malcolm McCrow
After a short but very bumpy ride in a traditional gypsy wagon  guests are driven to the ranch house for lunch - VIDEO CAPTURES Malcolm McCrow

From Kalocsa it is a short drive to Port Kalocsa where BELLEJOUR had arrived from Mohàcs - VIDEO CAPTURES Malcolm McCrow
There had been a fatal collision on the river at Budapest some days previously and because of this the Danube was to be closed to all shipping for 48 hours the following morning. Since it was essential to clear Budapest by 0500 the captain was anxious to make a rapid departure - VIDEO CAPTURES Malcolm McCrow
