The Glacier Express |

Brig, like Chur, is an ideal base from which to make day trips over the extensive but compact Swiss Railway System and while the Glacier Express takes undoubtedly the most direct and scenic route, it is not the quickest rail route between the two centres. The quickest route is on standard gauge via Zurich!
And if you want to take photographs, don't be tempted into the First Class dining car (left) where a meal is served at your seat during the most photogenic part of the journey! On the rack (right). VIDEO CAPTURES - COPYRIGHT - Malcolm McCrow

Unfortunately, due to renovation, the impressive Brig station façade was covered in scaffolding (above). It is not unusual to see off-duty soldiers carrying their personal weapons as in this instance at Brig station (right). VIDEO CAPTURES - COPYRIGHT - Malcolm McCrow

As the Mountain disappeared in cloud there was little business for the photographer and his St Bernard. Tourists posed with the dog which carried a barrel round its neck for the photograph. The Matterhorn provided the backdrop. By the time the train got back to Zermatt the Matterhorn had all but disappeared from view. VIDEO CAPTURES - COPYRIGHT - Malcolm McCrow |
