Class 47-7s were initially used only between Glasgow and Aberdeen and for a while a Mk 1 restaurant car was included in the rake of Mk 2d coaches. Thereafter 27012 makes a rather ignominious start with lots of noise and lots of smoke before it stalls and then restarts and very slowly passes Dundee West signal box as it commences the climb to the Tay Bridge. There are many much better images of this steam hauled special headed by A4 60009 Union of South Africa. What is however of interest is the impressive signal gantry with the special signalled to stop on the down avoiding line. Also of note is the over bridge above the platforms.
